Cheap Eats: What is Up With the Commercials Advertising Sugar?!

Published by angelac at 3:16 am under cheap, corn, foods to avoid Edit This

SweetSurprise commercialsEvery time I see the commercials for High Fructose Corn Syrup I get pissed off.  Isn’t there enough commercials for  junk food products?  High Fructose Corn Syrup is processed sugar. Do we really need a commercial advertising sugar?!  Is there anyone in this country that doesn’t get more than enough sugar in their diet? Let me just take breather for a minute . . .  :)

Ok, if you don’t know which commercials I am talking about, go to SweetSurprise.com and click on See Our Ads.  Basically, the ads state high fructose corn syrup is no worse for you than regular sugar. As a person trying to eat a clean diet, I have to disagree, it is highly processed, and therefore something I am trying to avoid eating or giving to my family.  However, high fructose corn syrup is cheaper and easier for food manufactures to use and is in pretty much everything, especially beverages.

It seems like the point they are trying to make is that high fructose corn syrup is not any more likely to lead to obesity than regular sugar, so it’s ok to eat.  Ummm, what?! Calories are calories, whether sugar, fat or vegetables.  If you take in more calories than you burn you will get fat. There is no way around it.

Our children are facing an obesity epidemic and a shorter lifespan than their parents.  Why is it ok to advertise processed sugar? How about some commercials for vegetables? Ok, I could go on and on.  Please don’t be fooled by these commercials.  Please read this article.  Processed anything is not good for you!
